Aslan Tkhakushinov: “We are concerned with the situation of Circassian Diaspora in Syria”

The Head of Adygeya Aslan Tkhakushinov expressed his regret in relation to the difficult situation in which the Circassians of Syria had appeared as a result of the political situation in that country:
- In their address the Circassians of Syria expressed a desire to return to the ancestral land, to live in peace and harmony with the people of Russia. In the context of the recent changes in the Russian legislation intensification of the contacts with compatriots abroad requires effective interaction with the federal agencies. Therefore, within the competence of our region as a subject of Russian Federation, we are ready to address to the leadership of Russia with the proposal to consider the return of representatives of the Circassian Diaspora.
In accordance with the Federal Law "About State Policy of Russian Federation in Relation to Compatriots Abroad", representatives of the Circassian Diaspora entitled to rely on the support of Russian Federation in reserving of their civil, political, social, economic and cultural rights, and preservation of their national identity.
Syria is a -friendly state to Russia, at present there are about 100,000 Circassians living there.We are concerned with the situation around the Circassian Diaspora of Syria, whose ancestors appeared in the Middle East as a result of certain historical events in the second half of the XIX century. Our compatriots living abroad is a special theme for Adygeya, associated with its historical past. Numerous Adygeyan (Adyghe) Diaspora living in dozens of countries, really consider Adygeya as their historical homeland.
